Skills

Skills are one of two "Proficiencies" used to link employees and shifts (spots)together. Establish your skills from the viewpoint of grouping your employees, their ability that makes them unique to work on a shifts. If you are creating a physician call schedule, example skills could be the following:

  • Day Call

  • Night Call (i.e. some physicians may prefer not to work on night call)

  • Cardiology (i.e. a technical skill a physician could have that allows them to work on specific shifts)

  • Airways

  • Blue Room

  • Pain Service

  • Peds

  • OR

If you are creating a nurse call schedule, example skills could be the following:

  • Triage

  • PSY

  • POD

  • CH (Charge Nurse)

  • CH - N (Charge Nurse - Night)

  • Orange Team

Skills can be anything. You can set an unlimited amount of skills

Skills can be tagged to your employees, physicians, nurses as a "Skill Proficiency". Skills are used to define what these employees are skilled to do. Skills are also tagged to spots or shifts under "Required Skills". Skills are also used to create individual rules. Ensure that you have "Global Rule" "Required Spot/Skill Proficiency Met" turned on for Skill proficiency rules to apply.

Generally, you only need to specify either a Skill Proficiency or Spot Proficiency for each employee. Just use one or the other. In complex schedule environments, both can be used, but consult with our support team to confirm the best approach.
